Description
This machine is not a telecine, or a scanner, or a video transfer unit. It is a 16mm film duplicator ; that is, it allows you to duplicateeach and every frame on a roll of 16mm movie film. After capturing all of the frames on the digital still camera, you put all of the
photos into Final Cut Pro, and turn it into a movie clip. A 100 foot roll of exposed 16mm film has 4000 frames on it.
Once you have your photos on your computer, you will import them into Final Cut Pro. From there you will get them all onto the timeline. Now, you make them into a consolidated clip and then alter the timing by speeding it up by 20,000%. What you end up
with is a nice little movie clip that you can do anything with; add sound, SPX, color and exposure correction, etc., etc.
This system is intended to be used for small rolls of film - 100 feet or less. 4000 pictures is a lot to deal with and if you do it in
raw format then it can take up a lot of time in processing. Also, ironically this is a very old projector but has a bit of trouble with
old film that has shrunk and distorted. Broken sprocket holes are a problem too, however, since the film path is right in front of you,
pull it up with your fingers to get to the next unbroken hole. New film just back from the lab with no damage or splices will sail right
through without a problem
This particular projector was chosen because it is small, lightweight, precision made with all metal parts, and the film is very accessible
right in front of you. It has an extremely steady film movement that will run forward and reverse and with the use of the Variac
(variable AC), it can run at one frame per second.
The system requirements are a Lumix GH-4 camera and Final Cut Pro video editing software. All other necessities are included
in this sale; including comprehensive instructions. Please note that a working knowledge of working with 16mm film and projectors
is vital to your success in the making of a really good digital video.
The video shows the results of this process. Please feel free to ask any
questions about the item. I will respond.
