During the year, I acquire thousands of prints, pages, discarded and damaged books. Many of these pages (e.g., encyclopedia pages) and prints are not the type or quality I sell individually. So, I pile them up in boxes and sell as lots of 199+ or by the pound.

Period: Mostly 1800s through 1900s
Most of the lot are
encyclopedia pages
of late 1800s and early 1900s, when they were very popular
Most bird images are B&W wood engravings...an occasional color (with faults)
Offered for study or art, school and scrap booking projects
The
first picture
is a group photo, but showing only a small number of the pages
The
2nd and 3rd pictures
show a few of the pages in greater detail
Almost all pages have related/unrelated text and illustrations on reverse
Less than a penny a piece
The collection weighs in at over a pound (before packaging)...hence the P/H
Size
: various sizes but typically 8" X 10"

The Nature of Prints & Engravings
: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the
print
itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as
illustrations
to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques:
relief printing
(woodcut & wood engraving),
intaglio printing
(steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and
planographic printing
(lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
