The pulley also reduces belt noise and slippage during rapid acceleration or deceleration while improving drive belt tension and prolonging alternator and belt life. The most common signs of an OAD failure are unusual drive belt noise and vibrations. You may also notice that the alternator does not charge the battery and the pulley spins in both directions.
