Description
Tura's origin story is an interesting one. Deriving from New York, late 1970s, from an optical dispensary of the same name off of Madison Avenue, Tura set out to establish a line unique in material, quality, creativity, and style. Utilizing materials of a differing variety such as the relatively recently-developed, 'Wonder Metal', Aluminum, the line's originator, Monroe Levoy, founded something quite independent of that era's optical industry. Quite durable, well-designed, the line gained distinct attention from eyewear appreciators. Tura was able to introduce certain affectations and design applications that were limited by the commonly produced polymer frames of that time; Aluminum being the reason for thus. Affectations like anodization, something that wasn't seen prior to such an introduction. In addition, the use of aluminum alloys afforded the frame a certain light-weight feel and lens mounting abilities. Polymers of the time had restrictions that were superseded by the use of Aluminum. Although, that isn't to say Tura only released frames in Aluminum. Lucite with filigree and bedazzlement was a substantial attribute to the line's catalog. Shock-resistant, durable, and light weight and, again, differing from the industry's commonly-used styrene polymers, Lucite's introduction established Tura in contrast to the industry's commonality, setting them apart.Made in Japan
